Terms of Service.

This document is a reasonable starting template but has not been reviewed by legal counsel. Review with a lawyer before relying on it for production use, especially before enabling commerce features such as The Altar.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account on Cult of the Disc ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. These Terms form a binding agreement between you and the operator of Cult of the Disc.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you represent that you have permission from a parent or guardian. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.
3. Your Account
You agree to provide accurate information during registration and to keep your account credentials confidential. You may not share your account, impersonate others, or create multiple accounts for abusive purposes. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. User Content
You retain ownership of the content you submit (collection entries, reviews, verdicts, comments). By submitting content, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to display, store, and distribute that content within the Service and in connection with operating and promoting it.
You are responsible for your content. Do not submit content that infringes copyright, is defamatory, harassing, or otherwise unlawful.
5. The Altar (Marketplace)
The Altar is a feature that allows the Service operator to list physical media for sale. The Altar is not a marketplace for third-party sellers. All items listed on The Altar are offered by the Service operator only.
When you submit a purchase request through The Altar, you are sending a non-binding inquiry. No contract of sale is formed until the seller confirms the transaction directly with you by email. Payment and shipping are arranged outside the Service, typically via PayPal, Venmo, or similar third-party services.
The Service does not process payments, guarantee transactions, provide refunds, or mediate disputes. Any transaction arising from The Altar is strictly between you and the seller. You participate at your own risk.
6. Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the Service without permission
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or circumvent security measures
- Upload malicious code, spam, or abusive content
- Harass, threaten, or impersonate other users
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Submit fraudulent purchase requests on The Altar
7. Third-Party Services
The Service integrates with third-party APIs including TMDB (film metadata), Discogs (music metadata), OpenAI (AI features), Supabase (authentication and database), Vercel (hosting), and others. Your use of the Service may involve data being transmitted to these providers under their own terms and privacy policies.
8. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, branding, and non-user-submitted content, is owned by the operator and protected by copyright and trademark law. Film and music metadata is provided by third parties and remains the property of its respective owners.
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time by contacting us. We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at our discretion, with or without notice, for violations of these Terms or for any other reason.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components. Metadata from third-party sources may be inaccurate or incomplete.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator of Cult of the Disc shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to lost data, lost profits, or transactions conducted through The Altar.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or an in-app notice. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state in which the operator resides, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
